I'm Here to Kill the King

I must apologize to all the people who were expecting this title to come out earlier. I'm truly humbled by the immensely positive responses I've gotten for this piece to be published. I finished it and realized that I'm a terrible short story writer and the scope of the project requires a novella length of text to do it any justice. In addition, releasing a dark fantasy novella on Holloween in an overly crowded market was a quite foolish idea for a new author. And after talking with my partners, I've decided to release it early next year. - Sean Bela

A young woman arrives at the Golden Gates of the Royal Palace of the Black Kingdom of the North. She comes with one colossal and insane message for the Sanducian Guards: "I'm here to kill the king," which she will continue uttering as a response every time her captors interrogate her.

After she's hastily arrested, shackled, and imprisoned in a dark dungeon and sentenced to death by hanging in the Tower of the Damned, she hums and taps her feet into the night, conjuring something both terrifying and awe-inspiring.

And upon the breaking of daylight, as her execution is carried out, strange and grotesque events begin to plague the once powerful, prosperous, and safest kingdom of the mortal realm; a kingdom where all forms of magic had been destroyed by the Prime Sovereign; a ruler who'd slain the mystical fiery Jade Mare beast which used to ravage the hinterlands.

As the dark mystery begins to unravel, the citizens realize either she may be the embodiment of a really powerful new form of magic or that the mystical events surrounding her arrival might not be tied to this insidious witch alone. And now, the possibility that a more sinister individual concealed among them, who could destroy their society unless s/he is unmasked, looms over the heads of millions of citizens.
